B-Secur takes part in Catalyst’s Generation Innovation

It won’t come as a surprise, but at B-Secur we are passionate about promoting careers in the tech industry.

It’s a dynamic, fast-moving world which has so many opportunities and career paths for young people, especially in Northern Ireland where, according to Tech Nation, Belfast is regarded as one of the UK’s fastest growing tech hubs. With increased levels of investment, a relatively low cost of living and excellent universities, the city has enjoyed rapid growth in the number of digital industry start-ups in recent years.

At B-Secur we are pushing boundaries every day as we work with some of the biggest technology companies to fast-track the next generation of consumer and medical devices. It’s exciting work which has the power to change the lives of millions of people around the world. To help us compete on the global stage, we employ the right people and work tirelessly to create an environment where they can grow and develop. Fostering a culture of innovation has been central to B-Secur’s success as a company.

We also work closely with Northern Ireland’s two main universities as well as our schools and colleges to build our profile among potential future employees. This is why we are excited to be taking part in Generation Innovation with our friends from Catalyst. The programme aims to inform, upskill, and empower the young people of this generation to thrive as the next leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs of the future.

On March 4 our team, led by Data Research Manager, Holly Easlea and Verification Team Leader, Danielle Cleary, visited Our Lady & St Patrick’s College where they delivered a technology showcase which involved displaying and demonstrating B-Secur’s cutting-edge tech to the pupils.

Holly said the Generation Innovation programme is a great vehicle for helping to inspire young people and to signpost them to potential careers.

She said: “Back when I was in school, I attended a presentation where Biomedical Engineering degrees were discussed, and this really struck a chord with me. I immediately knew that was the route for me. Had I not attended that presentation who knows what I would be doing with my career today.

“It is very difficult for young adults to know what direction they want their career to go, so it is very important to expose them to as many industries and career paths as possible to help them explore which one might interest them.”

Holly Easlea, Data Research Manager

“I am very passionate about going out and chatting to children and hopefully inspiring them in some way, therefore we are delighted to be taking part in Generation Innovation.”

Danielle said it was great to get out into the schools to promote the many pathways into the STEM industry to the next generation.

She said: “In total, B-Secur presented to 100 pupils from a variety of schools. We presented the scientific background to the pupils, explaining our algorithms and how they fit into remote healthcare and how they can empower people to take control of their health. We then had a great response to the pupils wanting to interact with our demonstration technology and got some intuitive questions based off this.

“The pupils got to use a piece of B-Secur hardware which enabled them to measure their ECG and see it displayed live with their health metrics on the HeartKey® app. It was great to see how interested they were in measuring their health metrics.”

Danielle Cleary, Verification Team Leader

Further showcase events are planned at Antrim Grammar School (March 18) and Bloomfield Grammar (March 25).
